The impact of Franklin Grants

Here are just some examples of the responses we have received from those who completed their projects  and that accompanied the report of their activities…

“First of all, a massive thank you to the Franklin Grant Committee for their generous support of my request to attend the 19th International Technology, Education and Development (INTED) Conference from 3 – 5th March 2025 in Valencia Spain.

The presentation, given in one of the largest venues at the conference, was well received. In particular, I made four international connections with colleagues who wanted to be involved in further international research from Mount St Joseph University, Cincinnati, Ohio, Riga Stradins University, Latvia, Holon Institute of Technology, Israel and the University of Helsinki, Finland.

The research related to this paper deals with the extent to which our communication knowledge and skills have developed in education as to be statistically significant and add to Foucault’s work, establishing that we are increasingly interacting with and understanding the world through technology and that in fact we are now living in a Technological age.

Thank you again to the Franklin Grant Committee for their encouragement and support.”

“Completion of the Instructional Design Fundamentals course through Cambridge ICE has significantly supported my professional development goals in digital learning and curriculum design. Much of the course complemented aspects of teaching in the areas of curriculum development, mapping and lesson planning but it was useful to gain greater understanding of how to approach digital learning development, rather than face-to-face,   in a more systematic way.

The course has been instrumental in further developing my skills and knowledge required to begin this work, and I am grateful for the Franklin Grant for supporting this opportunity. I look forward to building on this foundation and contributing to the ongoing development of high-quality, inclusive digital learning provision for my subject.”

Food Technology Teacher, Secondary School, Kent

“On a personal level, completing the (Executive Leadership)  course has greatly enhanced my ability to lead with clarity, empathy, and vision. The discipline of coaching—listening attentively, asking purposeful questions, and challenging constructively—has sharpened my leadership practice and enriched my interactions with colleagues. I am more confident in enabling others to find their own solutions, rather than providing immediate answers, which is proving to be both empowering for staff and sustainable for our organisation.

Your investment in my development has therefore produced far-reaching benefits. The ripple effect of coaching is evident.”

Secondary School Headteacher, Mid-Wales

“I am delighted to report that I successfully completed and passed the 18-week Level 1 British Sign Language (BSL) course at the end of June, thanks to the generous support of the Franklin grant. The course has had a genuinely transformative impact, not only on my professional development, but on the wider school community, both students and staff, deaf and hearing. The opportunity has allowed to take a step towards equity and visibility for our deaf students and I am deeply grateful to the Franklin grant for making that possible. What was a personal professional development goal has grown into a wider movement of deaf awareness and inclusive practice within the school. I am excited to build on this momentum and continue to develop my own BSL skills and with the recent confirmation of BSL GCSEs introduced nationally, we are well placed to offer students a pathway that recognises and celebrates their linguistic and cultural identity.”

Specialist Teacher, Secondary School, London

“I would like to thank the Franklin Grants Scheme for the generosity of their grant, enabling me to conduct research on 'Enhancing Parental Engagement in Education Through Digital Platforms: A Study of the Seesaw Online Platform' towards a professional course.    The grant has greatly benefitted the research I was able to conduct on behalf of my school. I am also looking forward to using it in the upcoming academic year to enhance the use of digital technology for effective parental engagement. “

“The Franklin Grant has rejuvenated my teaching practices and been a life raft of funding that has offered me the privilege of time and contemplation alongside working and learning from Artists and industry peers. I am deeply grateful for the opportunities afforded to me by The Educator’s Trust and the fundamental impact it has had on my work and values as an Artist.”

Freelance Arts Educator, London

“Thank you for awarding me funds from the Franklin Grant scheme, with this I completed a two-day ITC Level 3 Award in Outdoor First Aid. As an education practitioner, it was an exciting opportunity in my career development and a great chance to broaden my professional skills. “

(Primary Education Officer, University)

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the company for this award as the programme have been hugely beneficial to my leadership practice and the students. “

(Assistant Headteacher, London school)

“Thank you very much for supporting my professional development with this grant.   These courses have already proven highly valuable in my current role  (and) enhanced my ability to communicate more effectively with management, manage complex timelines, and deliver projects with greater impact. My improved skills in writing business cases, product descriptions, and project plans have strengthened my communication with stakeholders, building confidence among funders and encouraging further investment.”

(Secondary Education Officer, University.)
